The persistent effort and impulse of the community helped the creation of the project for the reconstruction of the skatepark in the centre of Liberec. The existing area, located in close proximity to the sports facilities of the primary school, no longer meets the current standards or style of riding. Representatives of the community, who are actively involved in the organisation of events and the promotion of adrenaline sports, helped to develop the exact design brief. Through a proven design process, close collaboration and consultation with the community, a venue for all groups of users was created. The proposal sparked a stimulating discussion between the authors, users and city councillors about the social overlap of an open sports facility and the benefits of a permeable area. The boundaries between private and public space were blurred and a sports ground with facilities for the general public was created. The social control and sense of accessibility encourages passers-by not only to watch the activities but also to be part of them. The renovated area offers the opportunity to participate in constantly evolving sports disciplines popular across age groups and becomes a new freestyle hotspot in North Bohemia.
